Soft cover. Condition: Good. 212 pp. Tightly bound. Spine not compromised. Text is free of markings. There is one 1/4" x 1/2" surface abrasion to top right corner front cover from price sticker removal. The covers show dulling / shelf rubbing from previous use. The previous owner has her blind stamp on the lower right corner of the title page. This copy is smyth sewn. Smyth sewing is a method of bookbinding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stitches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. This is the traditional and best method of bookbinding.

212 pages, 136 b/w and 68 color photographs, 7 maps, 2 charts. The enigmatic, mysterious, sacred art of the Huichols is brought vividly to life in this excellent--now out of print--volume that served as a catalogue for a 1978 exhibition at the de Young Museum. Twelve eminent scholars joined forces to produce this monumental catalogue that deals with the sacred art, the religious experience, and shamanism in Huichol art. The photographs of these lovely objects are universally excellent.
